Fog rises toward the Ered Luin
And the Moon lights up the Sea
And the Havens seem like a grey ship
Floating on waves of the fog.

Ithil, no need for your silver light
Poured down upon empty waves:
Leaving the Moon,  north after the Sun,
The ships went into the West.

But the Havens still wait, for here -- here the sails
Flashed northward under the Moon,
Misty stillness once woken by voices 
That passed over Sea long ago.

Yet twilight is silent. It mourns bygone days
The breakers weep salt tears...
That mingle with the gloomy fog
On the still empty shore.

But the Havens turn, moored to a moonbeam, 
As the ones who left do not return.
Invisibly, over land and Sea, 
The way is running straight, still.

The Moon sets, the firmament darkens, 
The silvery gleam dies away,
And it seems that the Havens sail into the West,
Sail on the fog of the Sea....
