An Annoying Fan Writer in New London
Terribly sorry I've been away so long (okay, it's only been
a week but I still feel I need to apologize...) I've had a horrible
head cold for the past few days and haven't felt like posting anything
at all. Today, I'm feeling much better though! So, I'm posting!
The first part of this is to sort of keep the plot going....
The name came out of its mouth as almost a curse. She had
appeared of her own accord, not from its machinations. It would have
to expend more energy to achieve its goal now. Especially since that
one didn't see herself as real in this dimension...
It growled thunderously to itself. She would pay dearly for
putting a kink in its plans...
Mary sat fumbling with her hands, muttering under her breath.
She had been sitting in this god-awful room for at least thirty
minutes--in a hospital gown and robe no less--and she was just a
little bit upset with the whole situation. And with herself.
Her inner turmoil was interrupted by the door to the adjoining
room opening. She blinked in surprise when not Hawkins, but Greyson,
came into the room. A very not happy Greyson.
Mary swallowed and looked at him with what she hoped was a
polite expression, but she needn't have bothered. He stepped aside and
pointed into the other room.
"You know her?" he questioned roughly.
Mary frowned in confusion before realizing that he was talking
about the girl sitting in a chair remarkably similar to the one she
"Brittney!" she said before she could stop herself. Still
keeping her earlier story in mind she began spouting off more
nonsense. "She's my sister! I had left her at the Tower so she could
sight-see while I went apartment hunting. What'd she do? Steal the
Several thoughts went through her head as she spoke. First,
What the heck am I doing?, then, How'd I recognize her, I've never
seen her before in my life...except that I know her.., and finally
Greyson looks sort of different as a real person....
Greyson's face, which had made him look like he was dangerously
close to an explosion earlier, now showed his confusion. "What the
bloody 'ell are you talking about! Hawkins! Get over here!"
Mary jumped as the words were barked out and as Hawkins made it
into the room with incredible swiftness. He had to have been standing
just outside the door.
Greyson opened his mouth, but an urgent beeping noise
interrupted him. He growled out something and stalked out of the room
through the door in which Mary had been brought in.
"Your sister?" Hawkins asked in that bland tone Mary had come
to really not like.
"Yes," she answered promptly.
"Ah. Why didn't you tell me about her earlier?"
"Because I thought she was safe at the Tower, an innocent
tourist, while I was being accosted after having had an accident!"
Mary winced. She hadn't meant to yell, but, nerves were getting to
Before Hawkins could respond, one of the constables standing
around--okay they were guarding but she really didn't want to think
about that--came up to him.
"Inspector, the chief wants you in his office ASA-mmediately."
Hawkins nodded. "Okay, don't let these two talk with each
other, but get them something to eat and drink." With that, he walked
out the door.
Mary rolled her eyes and sat back in the chair. Well, this was
just great. She was stuck in New London and was probably going to be
for a long while at the rate this was going. She should have stuck
with the truth.
A crash brought her out of her musings and she gasped when she
saw the constable on the ground, blood pooling around his head. There
was also a large burning hole in the side of the wall and two men
wearing masks standing on top of a hovercar were laughing and
Brittney was standing in the adjoining doorway gaping at the
hole as well. She looked over at Mary, who just shrugged.
"It's probably a bad idea, but...let's get out of here," she
Brittney nodded and the two of them made their way out of New
Scotland Yard, past panicking policemen and into the city of New
