Indulgence

It seems I'm always apologizing for not finishing stories...

I got bored with the Star Wars one..go figure...and I'm creating a new outline for "Baby Blues" -- and doing some more research on pregnancy

I'd also like to say that if there are any unfinished stories of mine -- except "Baby Blues" -- that anybody wants to finish, go right ahead

This story is another crossover. It might not make much sense...I'm kinda in a weird mood at the moment....

Lestrade glowered at Holmes as she carefully maneuvered herself past his long frame and over to the small opening, blocked by a metal door of some type. Of course, she didn't believe for one second that she could force her way out of this one, but she was pushed to try by his off-hand remarks. Pulling back her right hand, she launched it at the offending door.

"Lestrade, I don't think that...."

She didn't hear the rest of what he had said, as her fist had already connected with the metal, sending a resounding echo throughout the tiny alcove they were in. When the mind-bending noise died down, she leveled another death glare at her partner for the 'I-told-you-so' look he gave her.

With a huff, she threw herself back against the wall -- no mean feat in such a small space -- and folded her arms across her chest. It galled her that she couldn't get out of this. Not when more intricate problems had been placed before her, and she had come through with flying colors.

Moriarty chose that moment to make his dire announcement.

"It is with much regret -- and glee -- that I shall now dispatch of the only person in the world to ever have matched wits with I and come out on top -- and his Yardie as well. I would ask if either of you had any last words but...I know I should only be met with curses or the like from the dear inspector, and who knows what from my opponent. So, I shall only say...good bye."

Water began filling the chamber in which they rested. Holmes sat, resigned to his fate, while Lestrade desperately tried to cling to life for a bit longer. She had survived worse odds than this.

In the end...it wasn't enough.

The sun rose slowly over the horizon, a golden orb raised by unseen hands, casting its gentle light over the city. Unfortunately, few in said city were likely to pay attention to such a poetic sight. To them, the sun was merely part of their daily routine--nothing interesting enough to jog them from their insular little worlds.

The being floated -- invisible for the moment -- drifting aimlessly through the air and marveling at the so called sentient creatures and their one-track minds. Oh there were a few who were able to understand concepts that the rest could only dream about -- if that. However, even these few were unable to truly think, to let go the familiar and completely embrace the unknown.

Opening his awareness further, he allowed what passed for communications for these simple bipeds to reach his "ears". He further marveled at the conversations. A suitor begging his girl for a kiss; a man desparately trying to talk his way out of being arrested; and so on.

They amused him, these inferior species, and he wasn't sure why. Perhaps because they were so different, or even because of their simplicity. The reason didn't really matter to him, he was entertained, and that was enough.

And this timeline had no Starfleet to deal with. The humans were firmly grounded to their solar system. As no warp drive had been invented, no First Contact had been made. And the Continuum had been forced not to let themselves be known. Which of course left him free rein. He could interfere whenever and however he wished. As he was about to do now. He couldn't let things go as they stood. Besides, it was his father and godmother.

With a metaphorical wave of his hand, he subtly changed the events more to his own liking, and sat back to watch his handiwork.

Pulling back her right hand, she launched it at the offending door.

"Lestrade, I don't think that...."

She ignored him, as the seals on the hatch gave way, and the door flew off its hinges. She turned an incredulous look to her companion before clamboring out, not waiting for him to follow.

Taken by surprise, rounding up Moriarty's goons was an easy task. The mastermind himself of course had already escaped--as usual.

As Holmes and Lestrade walked side by side towards the hovercoach, Lestrade asked, "Holmes...did you get a sense of...deja vu back there?"

Holmes simply looked at her with that dreaded twinkle in his eye. "I do not believe in deja vu, Lestrade." And he refused to say anything more.

Bleh...okay that just sucked....but tell me what YOU thought about it....

Posted in response to Cyberwolf:

: : was his father and god-mother.

: Eh? (double-takes)
: Um...wanna explain that line to me, Mary? I'm
: not a Trekkie (oddly enough) and so I'm
: not sure what this being is...or what's
: happening here...

Okay..hm..it's a bit difficult to explain...as I said I was in a weird mood when I wrote it...anyway...

The "being" is one of an omnipotent species known as the Q. Yes, a single letter. Aren't they just the coolest? Ahem..anyway...this Q was the child of two other Q, to stop a Civil War among the Q continuum. To make a long story short, The daddy Q asked Captain Janeway to be the mother, she refused and convinced him to go with the female Q. So, Q junior was born. Janeway was made the baby's godmother. Two years later in another episode, the baby was all grown up so to speak and had to spend time as a human to 'learn' from his mistakes.

And now, stemming from an odd idea I had...the Continuum is undergoing yet another 'revolution' and they have decided to punish Q (the father) and Captain Janeway for helping him. So they created a new timeline and stuck them both in it. Only, he was stuck waaaaay back in time, as a character from one of the Star Trek's timeline's history. (Guess who ^_^) Janeway was placed in the 22nd Century (far enough apart that they couldn't help each other out, you see...guess the Continuum isn't all that powerful after all, eh?) And I know it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever but...there it is.

Editor's Note: Star Trek belongs to Paramount Viacom. It was created by the late Gene Roddenberry. Next Gen too. Don't sue!
