The Playful Fog

I know it's past Halloween but oh, well.

The sound of my alarm clock finally woke me up. Today was going to be a good day; I could feel it. And if you didn't know, it was Halloween and Friday, the perfect combo to round out the week. Even though I was in high school I was still going to wear a costume to school, but a very low key costume. I reached into my closet and picked out a long red skirt and a Victorian style red blouse. Then I found my tub of fake blood. Making sure not to overdo it I put a small gob of scarlet liquid on the right side of my forehead and a line of blood on my neck. If you can't tell what I am already, then I'll tell you. I had decided to go as one of Jack the Ripper's victims, I don't know which one I had seemed to be; forgot their names.

I glanced over at the clock to see that I was late to catch the bus. So I hurried out the door. Just as I opened the door I was faced with a thick cloud of fog. Cautiously I walked out the door and down the stairs. I could see only a few feet ahead of me, but since I had walked to the bus for three years this would be no different (curses not having a car). Through the fog I saw two blinking lights. Oh, no, the bus! I began to run, screaming for the bus to wait. Just then my foot struck something and I went tumbling down the road.

Finally after I stopped rolling I stood up slowly, holding tight to a black spiked fence. Once I had gained my footing I walked to the nearest house in hopes that whoever lived there would let me use their phone to call for a ride. Once at the door I searched but could not find a doorbell, so I used the brass knocker. Just then my legs gave way. I did not remember being carried into the building. Once my eyes had adjusted to the light I could see i was in an old style Victorian room.

"Good heavens. I see that you have awakened; you looked like you had had a nasty fall." I barely could keep myself from laughing. It was a man in what seemed to be a futuristic knight suit. He handed me a cup of tea in a porcelain cup.

"I'm fine, thank you. But I.."

"Oh, my, I hadn't noticed that large gash on your head and neck."

"Oh, don't worry, that's fake blood."

Just then a tall man wearing a deerstalker cap walked rushed in and yelled, "Watson, have you seen that blasted disk?" Then he said spotting me he said more calmly. "You should have told me we had a guest."

"Holmes, I gave that disk to Inspector Lestrade. And this is -- oh, wait, I never asked you your name... young lady, where are you going?"

I don't know what made me run out of there. Could have been the names or the weird costumes (it was Halloween, after all). but whatever it was, I did not feel like staying around to find out more. Down the stairs and out the door I went and I turned to go up the road. Once at the top the fog had seemed to have cleared, and to my amazement the bus was still there waiting for me. Without a second thought I boarded the bus for school.

That whole day I could not think of anything else beside that strange encounter. So after school as I made my way up the street I turned to look down the road I had fallen down that morning. I turned down the street, looking for a fence like the one I had grabbed hold of, but found none. That evening at home I remembered I had some work to do. Reaching into my bag I felt something cold and round. I pulled out a cup just like the one I had been given, full of tea, that morning.

Well, what do you think? I had this story in my mind for a few days so it's not very fresh.
