"We're here," Aphrodite announced.

"Already?"Lestrade asked. She looked around. She felt like they were in the Underground. The place was dark, gloomy, and enormous. Lestrade could hear barking from a distance. In front of them was a gloomy river. On top of that, the place was gloomy and dark. "What now? And what is this river for?" Lestrade asked.

Aphrodite pointed at the river. "This is the river Styx. And we need to cross it to get to the palace of Hades, which stands on the shore of Styx. By the way, Hades is the king of the Underworld, if you were planning to ask."

"Cross it? How?" Lestrade asked again.

Aphrodite smiled. "Watch. Yoo-hoo!! Charon!! Come over here, please!!" she called.

An old, skinny boatman came poling his ferryboat on the river towards them. "Yes? Aphrodite?" Charon asked.

"Would you mind ferrying us across the river?" Aphrodite asked sweetly.

"I don't mind, but first..." He held out his hand to Lestrade. "...Give me a gold coin for payment."

Aphrodite stood forward. "She's mortal and my friend, so she doesn't need to pay."

"But the Boss will kill me if you don't pay!" Charon protested.

"I'll explain to Hades later. Charon, please?" Aphrodite gave one of her killer smiles.

Charon gave up. "Okay."

After they had crossed the river, Lestrade stared in awe at the palace. Diamonds decorated the wall of the palace and sapphires covered the cones of the two tall towers. The gate was made of silver. Everything was beautiful except for...Lestrade's sight fell on a dog. A growling three-headed dog with a spiked tail.

Lestrade stared at the dog with horror and Aphrodite turned her head where Lestrade was looking. "Don't be scared, girl; that is Cerberus, Hades' watchdog. If you don't bother it, it won't bother you." Aphrodite pushed Lestrade gently to pass Cerberus.

When they arrived at the main hall of the palace, Lestrade looked around. Strings of emeralds twined around the golden pillars and the floor was made of white marble. Situated at the end of the hall were two empty black marble thrones.

"Darn, they are not here. Looks like you and I have to search for them in the palace," Aphrodite said, frustrated.

"Them? You mean Hades has a queen?" Lestrade asked.

Aphrodite nodded and took her hand. "Come on, we have to look for them," she said as they walked to a corridor.
