Tolkien Filk on the Web
Updated December 9, 2001
Links to various fannish songs inspired by the works of J.R.R.
Tolkien. Tolkien wanted to leave room in his world "for other hands"
to write music and poetry based on it, though he thought his hope
desperately unlikely. He succeeded; Tolkien has inspired more song
settings of his own songs, original songs, and songwriters (including me) than perhaps
any other poet or writer this century (though Kipling's a contender).
For a man who claimed no gift for music, "his songs are stronger songs".
